“Hello, Tina Johnson? I need help with my site and SEO. I’m not getting any leads.”
We often receive calls from site owners that want help marketing their website, but have not updated it for several years and may be having trouble with SEO. If you are behind the technology curve, common concerns are that your Website may not be:
-
Secure
Out-of-date code can leave the site open to security and privacy issues with user data, such as online forms that require personal information and credit card data. Users should never give personal information such as contact information, birth date, social security number or financial information online unless the Website shows the “https:” and lock symbol on the browser.
Tip: EU (European Union) sites must adhere to new online security regulations by May 25, 2018, or be subject to stiff fines. See GDPR link below.
-
Mobile friendly
Your audience may be trying to access your site via smart phones or other online devices and having trouble reading content and navigating. If they have to scroll too far down or across to see text, and the site is too hard to read they will quickly abandon your site and search for a competitor.
-
Loading properly or quickly
Old and cumbersome code can slow down the load time of your site. Your site may not even be loading at all, or is not compatible with certain Web browsers. Without regular site updates and maintenance your site can be inaccessible and users may be receiving site loading errors such as “Not found, error 404.”
Google ranks Websites according to these criteria, among other factors. Before we even consider how to attract site traffic and address SEO, these issues must be resolved. Your site must also be up to date with great content that is helpful to users and search engines (but that’s another story!).
